ROLES & FUNCTIONS

The MINDEF Library & Information Centre plays a key role in supporting the information and knowledge needs of the Ministry of Defence and the Royal Brunei Armed Forces.

Its core roles and functions include:

1. Collection Development & Management

To develop, organise, and maintain a comprehensive collection of print and digital resources, including books, journals, reports, and defence-related materials, to support research, education, and professional development.

2. Reference & Information Assistance

To assist users in locating and accessing relevant information resources within the Library’s collections and subscribed databases.

3. Access to Digital Resources

To facilitate access to electronic databases, e-books, e-journals, and other online resources, ensuring users can obtain information efficiently both on-site and remotely.

4. User Support & Guidance

To provide basic guidance on the use of library resources, catalogues, and databases to help users effectively access information.

5. Circulation & User Services

To manage borrowing, returns, reservations, and user enquiries, ensuring efficient and user-friendly library services.

6. Preservation of Defence Knowledge

To collect and preserve publications, reports, and materials relevant to defence and strategic studies for institutional reference and historical record.

7. Outreach & Engagement

To promote information literacy and research skills through training sessions, workshops, and user guidance programmes.

 

The Library serves as a knowledge support centre, facilitating access to information resources for research, learning, and professional needs.
